LESSON 9 BIBLE STUDY CONSECRATION

Text: 1Chron. 29:5, Heb.7: 28, 10:20

The word, Consecration, is an Old Testament word meaning to devote, separate and dedicate or set apart for the service of the most High God.

The word was mentioned twice in the New Testament, in the above passages

Heb. 7:28 ‘'… Maketh the Son (Jesus); who is consecrated forevermore.'' Heb.10: 20 ‘' by a new and living way, which He hath consecrated for us through the veil''.

Consecration does not mean conversion or a state of sinless perfection. It is not necessarily a sudden impulse or emotions developed in excitement. It is simply the soul living wholly in Jesus, not holding back. It is giving ourselves up to Christ forever as one bought with a price- I am no longer my own. It is not necessarily volunteering for full-time ministry or service, although that might develop. See 1 Chron. 29:5….'' Who then is willing to consecrate his service this day unto the Lord?''

Service is definitely an aspect of consecration. It should also be an act of worship. ‘'Who is willing…'' God presents an excellent opportunity to us to offer ourselves unto Him, willingly.

Willing to Consecrate:

Consecration is an act of the will. I must make the decision. God will never cross the threshold of human responsibility or will. Consecration is abdicating the rulership of our lives in favour of the King, our Lord Jesus Christ. The ‘I' yields to the authority of Christ as Master. Who is boss in your life?

Look at the life of Abraham .

•  To leave country and kindred, Gen.21:1

•  Separation from Lot ,Gen13:9

•  Casting out Hagar and Ishmael,Gen21:10

•  The Offering of Isaac,Gen.22

1. What is Consecration?

Consecration involves two acts- a) Yielding my will to God, the presentation of ourselves to Christ for His glory

2 . b) Consecration is the act of God when He accepts the sacrifices that we make.

The Priests did not consecrate themselves e.g Aaron and His sons merely yielded. Consecration involves devoting oneself to God (Micah 4:13 . It involves seperation and those who are members of God's family are invited to consecrate themselves. This consecration is not exclusive to the great, mighty or talented, but open to every believer.

3 . The Appeal to Consecration- Rom. 12:1

Our consecration is not promoted by fear but by love and mercies. What are some of these mercies? Justification, indwelling of the Holy Spirit, no condemnation etc.

•  Why must I consecrate myself? See Rom. 12:1; 5:16 , Col.4:5

5 . What is the result of consecration? See Rom.12:2 Back to Top

a) A life that is good, beneficial to others,

b) A life that is happy, joyous, victorious, because it was lived in the perfect will of God, the One who created me and redeemed me with His precious blood.

Conclusion: Consecration is a process. It is a daily moment by moment yielding in the daily crisis. The daily renewal of our consecration is not by flesh but by the indwelling Spirit as a supreme act of worship. Even now, consecrate your all to the Lord Jesus Christ, who is your Saviour.

Remember, Jesus beheld them and said unto them, ‘ With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the Presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever, Amen. Matt. 19:26, Jude 24,2
