TEXT: THE NAME OF JESUS: MATHEW 1:21
INTRODUCTION:
The name of a person brings into focus what the actual person is.
The efficacy of a name depends on how much authority and power the person commands. Great names are obtained in three different ways, firstly by inheritance, secondly by conferment and thirdly by conquest or achievements.
The name of Jesus was obtained in these different ways named above. The name of our Lord Jesus is the only name that is recognised in Heaven, Earth and in Hell , see Phil.2:9-11. The name of Jesus gives every believer hope of deliverance, see Matt.1: 21
HOW THE EXCELLENT NAME WAS GOT: (1) Through inheritance, Heb. 1:4, our Lord Jesus died as our substitute, 11 Cor.5: 21, Acts 2:25 and He became the first begotten through spiritual death Gal 1: 18. The name He inherited was given to Him on the resurrection morning, See Heb. 1:1-8 Acts 13: 33
(2) Through conferment : Phil 2 :9-11. Jesus' humility and obedience brought (earned) Him that excellent name which is far above all names Eph 1:20 ,21 (3) Through conquest: Col 2:15 . Jesus went to Hell for us Ps. 88 : 4-8, 22:1-16 and there he paralysed the devil and his cohorts Heb. 2:14,15 1 Cor.2: 6.
THE IMPLICATIONS: The progressive revelation (unveiling) of God in the Old Testament , Gen. 22:13,14 ; Ex. 15 : 26, 17:8-15; 6:24, Jer. 23: 6 came as a summation in Jesus Jn. 8:56-58, Ex. 3:14, Matt. 22: 42-45 and the fullness in Him Col.1:19, 2 :9.
(2) The conquest of the devil placed in His hands all authority Col 2:15, Rev.1: 17,18Matt 28:18.
(3) Everything is made subject to the name of Jesus in all the three realms of existence Phil. 2 :9-11.
They have no other choice . Each time the name is used, the glory and power of God are at stake and will guarantee results.
Please note: All the fullness of God, the Lordship and authority that Jesus wrought are summed up in His name and was given for the benefit of the Church of God Eph. 1:19-23. As such, we can profit from the use of the name and be free from every oppression or dominion of the devil. Matt. 1:21, Jn. 8: 36.
The name of Jesus belongs to all believers; every believer has a right to use the name of Jesus and obtain results. Acts 3:6; 4:24 – 30. In the following areas and more, you can use the Name to achieve the realities that you want.
In prayer to the Father Jn. 16:23 , 24
In making demands for our rights Jn. 14:14
There is salvation in the name Acts 4:12. You can claim your healing Mk. 16:18 , Safety, Deliverance, Preservation and Soundness of mind.
Baptism is available to us in the Name 1 Cor. 12; 13. Gal 3; 27, 28, Matt. 28: 19, Acts 10:48. Mk 16:17
Demons can be cast out in the Name Mk 16:17. Acts 16:18 and miracles are to happen in the name Mk 16:18 , Acts 3:6, 4:23 -33.
We are made acceptable to God by Him Eph. 1:6, and in Him do we have all that God has made available Eph.1:3,11 Col 1:12 ,13 Roms. 5:17 .
All that we do are to be in the Name Col. 3:17 ,Eph 5:20, James 5:14.
We are to make confession in the Name Roms. 10 : 9,10 and thereby receiving the answer to our needs.
BECOMING ESTABLISHED IN THE NAME: (1) A revelation of what God has done is placed in the Name. It is very essential if we are to walk in the reality. Eph 1: 17-23. This is going to come by praying and meditating on the Name.It is essential to have faith in the name of Jesus in order to receive answer to prayers Acts 3:16. Back to Top
