BIBLE STUDY LESSON 3

DEVELOPING THE HUMAN SPIRIT

TEXT: 1Thess. 5: 23 . 1 Cor. 2: 1-5

When we were saved we were born again in our Spirit, but our souls and bodies remained more or less unchanged. Our spirits were reborn into a New Kingdom and life. To function effectively in that realm, we would need to mature and grow up in the way that the Word directs us to.

Since God is a Spirit, we have to contact Him with our spirits. Hence, the need for our spiritual development. One can't afford to remain a babe in spiritual things.

John 3: 7 - 8; Romans 2: 28-29; 1 Cor.14: 14, 18.

You need to start thinking of yourself in a new light. Don't think of yourself as just a physical being. Think of yourself as a spirit being who possesses a soul and lives in a body. Man's Spirit is that part of him that contacts God. He is in the same class with God because God is a Spirit and God made man to fellowship with Him. John 4: 24, Ps.82:6

We cannot know God or touch Him physically because He is not a man. He is a Spirit being and you have to know that we cannot communicate with God mentally, for He is a Spirit. Thanks be to God that we can reach him spiritually (through our spirit) and through worship - John 4.24

Steps to the development of the Human Spirit: (1 Peter 3:4)

1. Meditating on the Word of God – Ps.1: 1 & 2, Josh. 1: 8; Ps. 119: 148 (Amp.) You cannot be a doer of the word without meditation. Top

2. Act on the Word - James 1: 22 –25, 2 Cor. 5:7 (Faith is highly needed here). Does faith or can faith fail? No! Never dare to stay on the unbelieving side. Choose to believe God rather than the circumstance Mark 9: 23.

3. Make the Word first place in your life. Job 23: 12 , Ps119: 11.

4. Always obey the voice of Your spirit – Acts14: 9; Acts.27: 10

5. Always strive to pray in the Spirit – Jude 20; 1 Cor. 14:4

6. Finally, make a conscientious study of the Word. God is inevitable in this venture. Let the Word come alive in you and let it become your way of life.

Jesus is Lord forever.
