BIBLE STUDY LESSON 10 WORSHIP
Exodus 20:1-4, Colossians 2: 18; Rev.19:10; John4:23-24; Psalm 95:6
WHAT IS WORSHIP?
Worship is to be given to God alone. It means to have God alone as your object of adoration and reverence. It means entering into His presence through pure praises of songs, thanksgiving and adoration –and to dwell therein always.
Worship is an act of will. You may choose to worship or not; and you may choose to worship God or the devil; or yourself.
WHO DO YOU WORSHIP
Exodus 20:1-4 tells us that God alone should be worshipped and served. He detests worship of any other thing that is created. He alone is the creator of all things so He alone must be worshipped.Angels are not to be worshipped. (Colossians 2:18 )and (Rev.19:10). Angels are made to worship God and any angel that says he should be worshipped is a demon (or fallen angel). The devil seeks to be worshipped. (Luke 4:7). Oftentimes we make material things our object of worship. We unconsciously magnify them above God and these things e.g. money, clothes, earthly possessions, etc. become gods in our lives. This must not be. God wants us to have all these but it is written “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all other things shall follow:( Matthew 6:33).
HOW DO YOU WORSHIP?
John 4:23-24. God must be worshipped in Spirit and in truth. He must be worshipped in awe and in reverence. You have access to enter His throne room by the blood of Jesus. You go there to offer your sacrifices of praise. You worship God with all your being. At the thought of His greatness, might and power, his love and faithfulness-you cannot but burst out with songs of adoration and praises and thanksgiving. You don't only praise or worship Him for what He has done, often you need to praise Him for WHO HE IS! In worshipping God, you are really exalting Him, lifting him up, magnifying him, telling Him you love Him. While in deep worship, God reveals more of his love to you and He pours down blessings on you.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU WORSHIP ?
The psalmist said : “ Blessed are the people who worship…..Your Name always, and extol your righteousness, for You are the glory of their strength (89:15-18). In Psalm 95:6. He says “Come let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord our God our maker…. For he is our God…pasture and the sheep of His hands.'' Back to Top
When you worship God in spite of what you may be going through, you are obeying His law that says you should worship him at all times. Secondly, he created you for that purpose-to worship him and have communion with Him. You were born to be his dwelling place, to show forth his praises….”
Praise and worship move God's hands. The story of Paul and Silas fully illustrates this. The pulling down of the wall of Jericho is another manifestation of the result of praise and worship. When you are given alone to Him in Worship, he opens his hands to bless. Worshipping God should be a life-style-not only to be done when you feel like it. The rewards of worshipping God in the midst of all is immense! You will be blessed beyond measure! The doors will open! The devil will bow!
